Apple is reportedly working on a device with a 20-inch foldable display

Apple may be working on a device with a 20-inch folding screen, which Apple tracker Mark Gurman describes as an “iPad/MacBook hybrid” in Bloomberg‘s Power On newsletter.

Gurman says Apple is indeed exploring the possibility of such a foldable device, backing the claims of Ross Young, the CEO and analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants. Young last week brought to the attention of Apple’s alleged plans to develop a device with a large folding screen, and Gurman has given this rumor some more depth.

Gurman claims that the device will have a dual screen display without a physical keyboard and trackpad – navigating and typing on the device will be based entirely on touchscreens. In terms of a possible release date, Gurman cites Young’s prediction of 2026, around the same time that Apple’s rumored car hits the market.

Lenovo has already done something similar with its ThinkPad X1 Fold, which has a 13-inch screen that folds into a touchscreen laptop in the middle. But as my colleague Monica Chin points out in our review of the device, Lenovo hasn’t perfected the technology yet. With a potential release set to take place as early as 2026, Apple has quite a bit of time to get things right — that is, if the foldable device ever becomes a reality.
