2022 Apple iPad Air: how to pre-order

As expected, pre-orders are officially open for the latest iPad to arrive in Apple’s lineup: the 2022 iPad Air. The new base model, announced alongside the new iPhone SE and Mac Studio at the company’s March 8 Peek Performance event, starts at $599 and will be available March 18. However, you can pre-order the iPad Air starting today, March 11, from Apple, Best Buy, B&H Photo, and a handful of other retailers.

The iPad Air has the same M1 chip as the latest iPad Pro, as well as 5G connectivity and a USB-C port that enables faster data transfer rates. Apple says its 8-core CPU is up to 60 percent faster than the A14 Bionic processor in the 2020 iPad Air, and that its 8-core GPU should deliver twice the graphics power of its predecessor. The tablet has a 12MP front camera that can take advantage of Apple’s Center Stage feature, which is designed to automatically keep you in the center of the frame during video calls.

Otherwise, the tablet is similar to the 2020 model and comes in two different storage configurations – 64 GB and 256 GB – each equipped with a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display. We’ll be reviewing the latest iPad Air in the near future, but if you’re looking to secure the slate for launch next week, it’s now available for pre-order in a slew of colors including blue, gray, pink, purple and a silver-gold colorway called ‘starlight’.
