Sony is coming Gran Turismo Movie is apparently hitting theaters earlier than we expected — release is slated for August 11, 2023, according to a new report from Deadline† Neill Blomkamp will direct the film, which should be based on a true story.
Seriously. Deadlines report does not contain casting details.
The movie is just one of many PlayStation game adaptations in the works for the big and small screen. Suspicions of the Gran Turismo movie first hit last month next to news that a Horizon Zero Dawn Netflix series was in development. Will Arnett plays Sweet Tooth in the turned metal show on the way to Peacock. Filming on HBOs The last of us show that closed last week, though that show won’t be released this year. Sony has announced that Ghost of Tsushima film from last year and is reportedly working on a god of war TV show with Amazon.
That may feel like a lot of video game adaptations, but some recent movies based on game franchises have been big hits, which could indicate that Sony’s strategy will pay off. Sega and Paramount’s Sonic the hedgehog 2 surpassed the original at the box office, while Sony hit gold with its not mapped movie released this year despite mixed reviews (including from The edge†
